Backstory....
Due to COVID-19, both me and my husband lost our jobs, along with so many others, making this one of the strangest years for all of us. We were both let go within days of each other, and before most of the country shut down.
Since we didn't really have anything tying us down to Seattle anymore (no jobs, no family) and since we could sense that this pandemic would be lasting for quite awhile, we decided to make another move together. We were very sad to leave the new friends we had made, who had helped us really enjoy our move from the midwest to the PNW, and of course the views Washington State had to offer!
We decided to stay in Austin, TX close to my family before we could make our official move to Dallas. We haven't been in Austin long, and can really only do outdoorsy things, but we have had a lot of fun being in the south already!
What have we done so far?
Murals!
Austin has some of the coolest murals all over town that I've ever seen!
If you're looking for a spot for an instagram photo shoot, just head to South Congress Street (I just googled the "greetings from Austin mural") and then just walked up and down the street taking a bunch of shots!
Kayaking on Lake Austin
On one of Austin's few cloudy summer days, we decided to go Kayaking and it was perfect! We got to spend some really fun time on the water for a few hours on Lake Austin. We got a really awesome view of Downtown. As we kayaked down close to the park, there were a few bridges that people would jump off of & into the water, which was fun to watch (as long as I didn't get splashed lol)
The Food
After living in the PNW we were in DESPERATE need of southern food! We of course got the southern staples our first month there: Sonic, Texas Roadhouse, Whataburger, Cracker Barrel. My husband also tried Hopdoddy for the first time, and Gus's Chicken (best is still in Memphis [represent] but Austin is second best!) We are ready to try more places, like more Texas BBQ (our favorite place so far is in Dallas), check out Torchy's, and we want to try all of the taco trucks! 🌮
Day Trips
We have already taken a few day trips since being in Austin! We have gone up to Dallas to see some of my family.
We took the short drive to Fredericksburg and went to Enchanted Rock, walked around their downtown, and of course got my favorite ice cream! We have also taken the short drive into San Antonio, (totally unplanned actually!) and we saw the Alamo and walked along the famous Riverwalk!
Growing up, I came to Texas every year until I was almost out of high school. I have always had a lot of my family in Texas. Coming as often as I did, I am excited to share some of my favorite little places with my husband, and explore as much as we can right now with him and find new fav spots together 😊
